E-mail Server Issues

To better server our customers, Rocky Mountain Internet has upgraded our mail server. Some of the new features this will provide are:

  • Anti-spam systems including Spam Assassin and Bayesian Filters.
  • Enhanced WebMail interface.
  • Increased SMTP relay security

This may cause some problems with your mail as we convert. Right now, only rmtnnet.com and rkymtn.net domains have been upgraded. Some of the common problems that will be seen are:

Login Problems

You no longer login to your account with your full e-mail address, only the username portion. For example, your e-mail address is someone@domain.com, you only need to use 'someone' to log into your account. The mail server compares both username and password to find your account. That allows all domains to have the same account as long as the username and password for each domain are different.

There may be periods where you can't log into your account if you login incorrectly starting next week. To enhance security, if you try and log into your account and have the wrong password 5 times, it will lock out the account for 30 minutes. During the switchover, we have this disabled.

People Sending You Mail Having Problems

The mail server will automatically start blocking other mail servers around the world designated as spam relays. Utilizing Black Hole Real Time Relay Lists, we will stop spam relays from sending messages to our customers and through us to other servers. What does this mean for you? If you have someone sending you a legitimate message from one of these servers to us, we will be blocking it. Either they should get an account with a server that helps to prevent spam or contact us about opening our server. This will only be done on rare ocassions.

We thank you for your support of Rocky Mountain Internet over the years and hope these new services help us to provide you the best service for today and tomorrow.
